Clinical and histopathological analysis of 16 pediatric cases with cutaneous lupus erythematosus
Objective To summarize the clinical and histopathological characteristics of 16 pediatric cases with cutaneous lupus erythematosus.Method The clinical and histopathology data of 16 pediatric cases with cutaneous lupus erythematosus in the department of dermatology at Kunming Children's Hospital were analyzed retrospectively.Results Of the 16 cases,3 cases were male and 13 cases were female.Among the 16 pediatric cases,there were 3 cases with multiple parts of skin rashes,11 cases with face rashes,1 case with neck rashes,1 case with scalp rashes.Additionally,there were 7 cases with positive antinuclear antibody and 9 cases with negative antinuclear antibody,1 case with positive anti-SSA antibody,1 case with positive anti-Jo-1 antibody,and 1 case with positive anti-ribosomal P protein antibody.There were 1 case of acute cutaneous lupus erythematosus,6 cases of subacute cutaneous lupus erythematosus,9 cases of chronic cutaneous lupus erythematosus.of the 9 cases of chronic cutaneous lupus erythematosus,3 cases were linear lupus erythematosus,3 cases were discoid lupus erythematosus,1 case were tumid lupus erythematosus,1 case were chilblain lupus and 1 case were lupus panniculitis.The clinical and pathological diagnosis was consistent with 10 cases(62.5%),of which 1 case was eventually turned into systemic lupus erythematosus.Histopathological findings mainly showed the formation of follicular plug,hyperkeratosis,atrophy and thinning of spinous layer,liquefaction degeneration of basal cells,distribution of pigmentophages,infiltration of inflammatory cells around blood vessels and appendages,and a small number of mucin deposition changes.Conclusions The cutaneous lupus erythematosus is rare in children and is easily misdiagnosed.Early diagnosis can be achieved through a combination of clinical and histopathological findings.
