Skin lesions analysis for SARS-CoV-2 infection in children
Objective To investigate the clinical features of skin lesions associated with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2)infection in pediatric patients. Methods The clinical data of 79 pediatric patients with SARS-CoV-2 infection were recorded, followed by an analysis on the types and characteristics of skin lesions. Results Among the 79 pediatric patients, there were 47 males and 32 females, with an average age of 2.42±2.94 years.Of these 79 patients,47 presented with erythema-like eruptions,15 with urticarial-like lesions,15 with erythema-multiforme-like lesions and 2 with vesicular lesions. The mean time interval between the onset of skin lesions and other symptoms was 2.82±1.88 days, ranging from 1 to 7 days. The duration of skin lesions ranged from 5 to 11 days. Conclusion Unvaccinated children under the age of three may face a higher risk of developing skin lesions associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection, wherein erythema-like eruptions are the most common.
