Research progress of high-frequency ultrasonography in acne vulgaris
Acne vulgaris is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by the involvement of hair follicles and sebaceous glands, resulting in facial disfigurement. In the past, diagnosis and treatment of acne primarily relied on visual inspection, palpation and personal experience of dermatologist, with limited utilization of the examination equipments. In recent years, the advancements in skin imaging technology and high frequency ultrasonic probes have enabled utilization of non-invasive,convenient,objective,quantitative,and dynamic high-frequency ultrasound detection. It can be utilized not only for regular skin measurement but also in medical cosmetology,as well as for the diagnosis and treatment of various skin diseases. This article mainly reviews the progress on applications of high frequency ultrasound in observing the morphological characteristics of acne vulgaris and acne scars, evaluating the disease severity, guiding the treatment plans, monitoring and assessing the treatment efficacy, and so on.
