An epidemiological analysis of syphilis at dermatology and venereology clinic in a general hospital
Objective To investigate the incidence of patients with syphilis at dermatology clinic in Binzhou Medical University Hospital bewteen January 2017 and December 2022,and analyze its infection rate and epidemic trend,so as to provide an important basis for the control strategy of syphilis. Methods The general data of patients who voluntarily underwent syphilis testing, along with their corresponding test results in treponema pallidum particle agglutination(TPPA)and rapid plasma reagin(RPR)were collected for statistical analysis. Results A total of 6 290 cases were tested from 2017 to 2022,with 3 198 cases yielding positive results. The annual positive rates were 54.58%,53.19%,52.35%,49.79%,46.21%and 45.89%,respectively.There were 1 321(21.00%)cases with current infection, and the annual current infection rates were 23.21%,21.84%,20.99%,19.72%,19.53%and 19.45%,respectively.The majority of cases fell within the age range of 21-40 years. The proportion of infection was significantly higher in females compared to males(P<0.05),with a female to male ratio of 1︰0.89.The proportions of infection in females were 51.92%、53.19%and 58.24%respectively from 2017 to 2019,showing a consistent year-on-year growth trend. However, there was a significant decline in the proportions of infection in females at 50.32%,50.81%,and 50.27%from 2020 to 2022.Conclusion The incidence of syphilis is decreasing slowly year by year. The majority of cases occurred among individuals aged 21-40 years. While the incidence rate was higher in females compared to males, the incidence rate among females over 40 years old was lower than that among males. Therefore, enhanced monitoring measures should be implemented for sexually transmitted diseases such as syphilis.
