Clinical observation of roller microneedles combined with a self-formulated hair growth tincture in 50 cases of seborrheic alopecia
Objective To explore the clinical efficacy of roller microneedles combined with a self-formulated hair growth tincture in the treatment of seborrheic alopecia. Methods The study included a total of fifty patients with seborrheic alopecia who underwent treatment at the Department of Dermatology,Xinhui Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine, between April 2023 and February 2024. The treatment involved evenly rolling of roller microneedles over the scalp, followed by the immediate application of a self-formulated hair growth tincture, which was evenly sprayed onto the treated areas of the scalp. Subsequently, the scalp was covered with plastic wrap to secure and optimize the efficacy of this therapeutic intervention. The roller microneedles treatment was performed once a week, while the self-formulated hair growth tincture was applied once in the morning and once in the evening daily. The treatment duration was 4 to 12 weeks. Dermoscopy images were taken every 4 weeks, along with photographs of the treated area's hair and patient self-assessments. These were used to compare the amount of hair loss, hair density in the treated area, dermoscopic images of the local scalp, and the patient's self-evaluations before and after treatment. Results After treatment,47 cases showed a significant reduction in hair loss,1 case had moderate improvement, and 2 cases showed no notable change, resulting in an overall effective rate of 96%. Conclusion The combination of roller microneedles and a self-formulated hair growth tincture is an effective, safe, and worthy treatment for seborrheic alopecia.
