Clinical analysis of 9 cases of monkeypox in a general hospital in Beijing
Objective To investigate the epidemiological characteristics,clinical manifestation and etiology of patients infected with monkeypox in a general hospital in Beijing,thereby providing scientific evidence for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of monkeypox.Methods A retrospective study was conduct on 9 cases of MPVX infection admitted to Beijing Chui yang liu Hospital from May to October 2023. The epidemiological characteristics,clinical manifestations,and etiology examinations of patients were further analyzed.Results Among the 9 cases,8 were male and 1 was female. All 8 male patients were identified as men who have sex with men (MSM).The predominant clinical manifestations included fever,genital pustules and ulcers,vesicles and pustules on other area,perianal abscess,and suppurative tonsillitis. The patients visited various departments,including dermatology,general surgery,gynecology,and fever clinics.The etiological examination involved four tests,including pharyngeal swabs,blood serum,and vesicle and pustule fluid. 4 cases had all four positive tests,3 cases had 2 positive tests,and 2 cases had 1 positive test. Conclusions The diagnosis of monkeypox requires a comprehensive grasp of epidemiology,clinical manifestations and etiology. Monkeypox would involve multiple departments and it is important for us to pay attention highly.
