A case of wheat-dependent exercise-induced anaphylactic shock
A 16-year-old female patient experienced sudden syncope lasting 15 minutes shortly after eating bread and going for a morning jog.Dermatological examination showed large areas of edematous erythema and wheals across her body.There were no obvious abnormalities in laboratory tests and auxiliary examinations.This similar situation has occurred repeatedly in the past three years.The patient was diagnosed as wheat-dependent exercise-induced anaphylactic shock.The patient was administered anti-allergy,anti-shock,and oxygen inhalation treatments,as well as potassium supplementation and other symptomatic interventions,after which the patient gradually returned to normal.The patient was advised to avoid wheat-containing products,drinking alcohol,nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs,and refrain from strenuous exercise within 6 hours after ingestion.After 3 months of follow-up,there was no recurrence according to medical advice.
