Effect of specialized nursing interventions combined with short-wave ultraviolet light on oral mucosal injury in patients with nasopharyngeal carcinoma
Objective To explore the effect of specialized nursing interventions combined with short-wave ultraviolet therapy on the oral mucosa of nasopharyngeal carcinoma(NPC)patients who undergoing radiotherapy and chemoradio-therapy.Methods Sixty-three patients with NPC who received treatment for the first time from June 2021 to July 2022 were selected and divided into the control group(n=31)and the observation group(n=32)according to the random number table. The control group received conventional nursing interventions, while the observation group received spe-cialized nursing interventions combined with short-wave ultraviolet therapy when oral mucositis appeared during radiother-apy.The severity of oral mucositis during radiotherapy, recovery time, duration of pain caused by oral mucositis, and the days of hospitalization were compared between the groups. Results The severity of oral mucositis in the observation group was less than that in the control group. The total days of the recovery of oral mucosal[(10.9±0.9)d vs.(12.9± 3.3)d],the duration of oral pain[(9.0±0.9)d vs.(11.0±3.0)d],and the total days of hospitalization[(59.5± 3.4)d vs.(65.7±9.5)d]in the observation group were reduced as compared with the control group. The differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion Specialized nursing intervention combined with short-wave ultravi-olet therapy can reduce the severity of oral mucosal injury, accelerate the recovery of oral mucosal injury, reduce pain, and shorten hospitalization.
