Standardization of Carbon Footprint Category Rules for Petrochemical Products
Carbon footprint has been widely used as an important method to evaluate carbon emissions in the life cycle of products or services. However, due to the strong principality of existing international standards,it needs to be standardized for different industries.Product category rules are a set of specific rules, requirements and guidelines that must be met for the assessment of carbon footprint for one or more product categories. The development of the"Carbon footprint Product Category Rules Petrochemical Products"industrial standard is of great significance for promoting the standardization and consistency of carbon footprint assessment of petrochemical products. This article proposes a description of petrochemical products, including basic organic raw materials, organic chemicals, and synthetic polymeric materials, from the perspectives of the petroleum and petrochemical industry system, national economic industry classification, and the scope of the chemical industry. It also elaborates on the relevant considerations for formulating the functional units, system boundaries, allocation rules, and definition of life cycle stages under the product category rules.
