Correlations of sexual behavior with self-control and parental rearing styles among college students in Guangxi
Objective To understand the current situation and influencing factors of sexual behavior as well as the influence of self-control ability and parental rearing styles on sexual behavior among college students in Guangxi.Methods Using the convenient sampling method,a questionnaire survey was conducted among 565 college students from three universities in Guangxi.The survey contents included general information,current status of sexual behavior,self-control ability and parental rearing styles.Results The incidence rate of sexual behavior among the college students was 33.5%.The incidence rate of sexual behavior was higher in male students,senior students,students of Zhuang nationality and students from urban areas(x2=14.617,x2=27.047,x2=30.276,x2=5.398,all P<0.05).The scores of dimensions of impulse control,restraint of entertainment and resistance to temptation were lower in students with sexual behavior than those without the behavior(t=-2.890,t=-4.204,t=-2.592,all P<0.05).The scores of dimensions of paternal overprotection and maternal overprotection were higher in students with sexual behavior than those without the behavior(t=3.005,t=3.235,both P<0.05).Multivariate logistic regression analysis displayed that female students(OR=0.574,95%CI:0.379-0.868),freshmen(OR=0.182,95%CI:0.079-0.424),sophomores(OR=0.447,95%C/:0.243-0.822)and students from rural areas(OR=0.569,95%CI:0.373-0.869)had a lower risk of sexual behavior,whereas students of Zhuang nationality(OR=3.111,95%C/:2.042-4.741),students with high score of maternal overprotection(OR=0.878,95%CI:0.810-0.953)and students with low score of restraint of entertainment(OR=1.077,95%CI:1.022-1.135)had an increased risk of sexual behavior.Conclusion Universities should pay attention to sexual health education,especially for males and senior students.Parents should build high-quality parent-child relationships through various ways.At the same time,college students themselves should arrange the time for entertainment reasonably.
