Epidemic characteristics of acute flaccid paralysis cases in Hefei City,2012-2020
Objective To investigate the epidemic features of acute flaccid paralysis(AFP)cases in Hefei City during 2012-2020,and to provide a basis for developing strategies for consolidating the polio-free situation. Methods The epidemiological data about AFP cases in Hefei City from 2012 to 2020 were collected, and then statistically analyzed by descriptive epidemiological method.Spatial autocorrelation analysis was performed using R 4.3.0.Results A total of 246 AFP cases were cumulatively reported in Hefei City from 2012 to 2020,with the average annual reported incidence rate being 2.14/100,000.The differences in the seasonality of the incidence were not obvious. The proportion of male to female was 2.15∶1.The incidence rate of the group aged 2 years was the highest(8.41/100,000),while the incidence rate of the group aged 8 years was the lowest(0.78/100,000).96.75%of the cases had completed at least three primary doses of polio vaccine, and 86.21%of the cases in the group aged 4-15 years had completed the fourth dose of polio vaccine. The follow-up visit at the 60th day after paralysis showed that 10.98%cases still had residual paralysis.99.59%of the cases were followed up by CDC staff.Spatial autocorrelation analysis displayed that the high-high cluster area of the reported incidence in 2020 was located in Baohe District, while the low-low cluster area was located in Lujiang County. Conclusion It is necessary to improve the grass-roots clinicians'ability in early differentiation and diagnosis of AFP cases in Hefei City, promote booster immunization of polio vaccine, pay more attention to residual paralysis sequelae, encourage rehabilitation doctors to participate in follow-up visits, and explore targeted regional prevention and control strategies.
