Objective To understand the distribution characteristics and influencing factors of serum spermidine in adults aged ≥35 years in the rural areas of Fumeng county,Liaoning province. Therefore,it provides theoretical support for further intervention measures for aging-related diseases centered on serum spermidine. Methods From June 2019 to August 2019,stratified cluster random sampling was used to conduct an epidemiological investigation in Fumeng County,Liaoning Province,China.Subjects aged ≥ 35 years with no missing key variables were included.Spermidine levels in serum were measured using high-performance liquid chromatography with a fluorescence detector(HPLC-FLD).SPSS 22.0 software was used for statistical analysis to described the distribution and related factors of serum spermidine in populations with different gender, age and other demographic characteristics. Results In total, the mean Mean±SD age of participants was(59.2±10.0)years,including 1 573(35.76%)male and 2 826 females(64.24%).Serum spermidine levels showed a skewed distribution, with a median(quartile)of 24.8(13.4,50.1)ng/ml,and men,35~44 years and ≥65 years, drinkers, smokers, overweight population had higher spermidine levels, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The results of Spearman correlation analysis showed that serum spermidine levels were positively correlated with age, diastolic blood pressure(DBP),and body mass index(BMI)(P<0.05),and negatively correlated with high density lipoprotein(HDL)(P<0.05).Conclusion The distribution of serum spermidine in adults aged 35 and above in rural areas of Liaoning Province was different among different population groups, and was affected by gender, age, body mass index and behavior lifestyle. At the same time, spermidine is closely related to aging and cardiovascular diseases, especially stroke.
