Objective To explore the rate and causes for cancellation of inpatients elective operations in order to develop strategy for optimization of resource utilization and provides refrence for the fine management.Methods This study retrospectively investigated inpatient elective operation cases in Shanxi Eye Hospital from January 1,2022 to June 30,2023 from the hospital electronic information system and analyzed the rate and causes for cancellation of elective operations on the day of surgery.Results Totally 398 cases(1.37%,398/29 052)cancelled operation on the day of surgery among 29 052 inpatient elective operations.Reasons for cancellation involved medical(38.19%,152/398),patients(60.55%,241/398)and hospital(1.26%,5/398)factors.Conclusions Most cancellation events can be prevented by improving specific measures like strengthening doctor-patient communication and preoperative evaluation,Enhancing the capabilities of medical personnel and the rate of operation cancellation is expected to be reduced significantly.
