Relationships of mitophagy and organisms with ischemia-reperfusion related microvascular injury
Mitochondria are energy-generating organelles presented in most cells and are the main places for aerobic respiration.Mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation provides the energy to maintain life activities.Mitochondrial dysfunction is closely related with the onset and development of many diseases, such as cardiovascular diseases and diabetes mellitus.Mitochondria are crucial for the survival of microvascular endothelial cells due to their roles in metabolic energy production and regulation of programmed cell death.Mitochondrial quality control system regulates mitochondrial structure and function, including mitochondrial biogenesis, mitochondrial fission and fusion, and mitophagy. This paper reviews the research progress of molecular mechanisms underlying mitophagy and mitochondrial biogenesis, and relationship with microvascular ischemia-reperfusion injury.
