Regulatory mechanism of Klotho in diabetic kidney disease
Diabetic nephropathy is one of the microvascular complications of diabetes, which would finally progress to end-stage renal disease, with multi-system complications, and seriously affects the life quality and life span of patients.Klotho is mainly expressed in renal tubular epithelial cells, with the functions as anti-aging,anti-apoptosis,anti-oxidation,and regulating calcium-phosphorus metabolism. It is involved in the regulation of macrophage polarization, oxidative stress and various signaling pathways, and plays a role in delaying the progression of renal fibrosis, which might be a potential therapeutic target for diabetic nephropathy. This paper reviews the research progress of the regulatory mechanism of Klotho in diabetic nephropathy.
