A study on optimization strategies for public spaces in Pingjiang Historical and Cultural District from the perspective of child-friendly cities
The high-quality economic and social development demands higher requirement for urban construction.The construction of child-friendly cities has been proposed and initiated across the country in recent years,and Su-zhou is among them.As a national model for the protection of historical and cultural districts,the issue of how Pingjiang Historical and Cultural District can achieve child-friendliness is one that must be addressed in the con-struction of a child-friendly city in Suzhou.This paper reviews the theories related to child-friendly cities and ana-lyzes the morphology and characteristics of the public spaces in Pingjiang Historical and Cultural District,and sum-marizes the potentials and drawbacks of historical and cultural district public spaces in achieving child-friendliness.Finally,the paper proposes the optimization strategies for the public spaces in Pingjiang Historical and Cultural District from the perspective of building a child-friendly city,focusing on school commuting spaces,recre-ational areas,and spatial interest.
