The Compilation Style of The Corpus of Wei Shuzi and Its Stylistic Significance
The compilation style of The Corpus of Wei Shuzi has its distinctive features in the history of compilations. In addition to the tradition of excluding the eight-part essays in general collections, the abnormal choice of excluding the inner chapters but including the outer chapters is due to the great influence of the Jiashen coup on Wei Xi's concept of the eight-part essay.Wei Xi arranged the articles according to different styles and prefaced each style with brief introductions to discuss stylistic theory, which was influenced by the stylistic introductions of Wu Ne's Wen Zhang Bian Ti and other Ming Dynasty collections. It also shows Wei Xi's emphasis on stylistic issues. The stylistic categories and the order arrangement reflect Wei Xi's stylistic features of writing and his unique stylistic view.
