A Study on Suzhou Official School(Confucianism)During the Tang,Song,Jin and Yuan Dynasties Based on Philology
The implementation of local official schools in the middle and late Tang Dynasty was generally unsatisfac-tory,due to the division of separatist regimes, difficulties in implementing government orders, and difficulties in cen-tral finance;in addition, the administrative divisions of Suzhou changed several times,so it is possible that Suzhou official schools(Confucianism)were not newly established.During the Five Dynasties period, wars continued, schools declined, and Suzhou was repeatedly attacked by wars. There was no confirmed recruitment for official schools(Con-fucianism).During the Northern Song Dynasty, the official school(Confucianism)in Suzhou was relatively large in scale, dating back to the fourth year of Qingli reign of Emperor Renzong of Song; The initial appointment of academ-ic officials(professors)can be traced back to the first year of Yuanyou reign of Emperor Zhezong of Song Dynasty, and they were mostly appointed as jinshi.During the reign of the Jin Dynasty, the scale of official schools(Confu-cianism)in Suzhou was greatly reduced, and the level of academic officials was also greatly lowered. The official school(Confucianism)in Suzhou during the Yuan Dynasty existed for a long time but was relatively small in scale. It was initially established in the eleventh year of the Zhiyuan era and underwent multiple expansions.
