Impacts of water conservancy projects on public health and protection measures
The environmental medicine problems of disease spread during the construction period of water conservancy projects were reviewed. First, the factors that result in disease, including aquatic environmental change due to impoundment or irrigation of the projects, gathering of construction workers, migration resettlement, and living condition change, were analyzed. Then, the epidemic features, transmission routes, and health damage of major diseases related to the projects, including natural focus disease, insect-borne disease, water-borne disease, and endemic disease, were examined. Some measures for anti-epidemic action, quarantine, sanitary clearance of the regions to be inundated and constructed, drinking water quality improvement, and disease prevention and treatment were recommended.
