Yu Dayou formed his own unique military thought during his more than 40 years of military service."Planning first and fighting later"is one of them.He emphasized that a detailed battle plan should be formulated for each battle,and no battle should be fought without preparation.Before the battle,soldiers and weapons should be planned;in actual combat,battlefields,opportunities and strategies should be planned.He also advocated diligent training of soldiers in peacetime,selecting elite soldiers to form a restrained division;paying attention to the use of weapons,transforming chariots in the north and forming chariot camps;building and using more powerful Fujian ships in the southeast.
