The Vernacular Romance of Sun Zi is included in the Part of Zi of Guangzhou Canon,which is the only document included in it that is completely related to The Art of War.Its compiler,Guangdong Generals and Soldiers School,a new-style school for quick education that hired a large number of foreigners or people with overseas study experience,was founded by the Governor-General of Guangdong and Guangxi,Cen Chunxuan.The subjects were complicated and spiritual education was particularly emphasized.It cultivated important military generals in the modem Chinese revolutionary history such as Deng Keng.Although Guangdong Generals and Soldiers School"took foreigners as teachers",it also attached importance to traditional education.Based on the reality that the general cultural level of students was not high;it compiled The Art of War in a popular and concise vernacular text to lay a foundation for students'traditional military studies.
