The Battle of Yan between Qi and Jin was a war with limited political purposes that broke out in Yan during the Spring and Autumn Period with Qi and Jin as the center.In the process of competing with Chu for the hegemony of the vassal states in the Central Plains,Jin needed to find reliable allies among the major powers at that time to deal with the offensive of Chu in the south against the Central Plains,especially after the failure of the Battle of Bi between Jin and Chu.However,this political conception of Jin conflicted with the interests of Qi and failed to receive a positive response.Jin used a combination of political,diplomatic and even military strategies to force Qi to form an alliance with Jin through a limited war,laying the foundation for dealing with the political and military pressure of Chu and restoring Jin's hegemony.
