Objective To study the pharmacoeconmics of 3 kinds of amlodipine for essential hypertension. Methods 150 patients with essential hypertension were randomized into 3 groups. Group A was given amlodipine besylate(5 mg,qd). Group B was given L-amlodipine besylate(2.5 mg,qd). Group C was given amlodipine maleate(5 mg,qd). The curative and side effects were monitored and the cost-effective analysis were performed according to the principle of pharmacoeconomics. Results The total effective rates of the 3 groups were 81.6% ,84.0% and 77. 1% respectively showing no significant differences among Group A,B and C ( P > 0. 05) . The incidence rates of side effects of 3 groups were 10. 2% , 4.0% ,22.9% respectively showing significant differences between group C and other 2 groups (group A and B ) (p < 0. 05 ). The cost-effective ratios were 3. 73,1. 93 and 1.41 respectively. Conclusions There was no significant differences in efficacy of 3 kinds of amlodipine. However, the cost-effective ratio of amlodipine besylate was highest. The side effects of amlodipine maleate was more than others (P < 0.05). In conclusion,L-amlodipine besylate is the best choice because it's safe, effective, and economic. So it can be used widely in clinical for hypertension treatment.
