Objective To study the effects and interventional mechanisms of Cordyceps sinenisis extract on bleomycin-induced pulmonary fibrosis in rats. Methods The pulmonary fibrosis model of rat was established by intratracheal administration of bleomycin. The pulmonary index, pathomorphology, GSH, T-AOC, HYP, a-SMA, TGF-(3l protein and gene were assessed at the 7 d, 14 d, 28 d after drug administration. Lung samples collected were stained with hematoxylin-eosin (HE) staining and scored. BLM-prednisone group was positive control. Results Cordyceps sinenisis extract could alleviate BLM -induced pulmonary fibrosis in rats. The pulmonary index, the amount of HYP, the expression of a-SMA, TGF-(Jl and gene in lung tissue were significantly decreased in Cordyceps sinenisis extract group compared with those of control group (P <0. 01 or P <0.05) , While the activity of GSH and higher the level of T-AOC in lung tissue were enhanced in Cordyceps sinenisis extract group (P < 0. 01 or P < 0. 05 ). Conclusion Cordyceps sinenisis extract has an obvious relieving effect on rat pulmonary fibrosis, probably by the reinforcement of antioxidant systems, decreasing the expression of TGF-β1 and inhibiting the proliferation of lung myofibroblast.
