Comparison and analysis of clinical data characteristics of assisted reproduction between different countries and regions
Objective:To understand the differences of number of ART cycles, population characteristics, infertile causes, and ART outcomes in different countries and regions by comparing the publicly available 2018 ART data between China and European Union(EU),United States(US),Japan,Australia and New Zealand(ANZ),and Latin America(LA).Methods:The ART cycles, etiology of receiving ART treatment, female age, clinical pregnancy rate, live birth rate, multiple pregnancy rate, and single embryo transfer(SET)ratio were compared by collecting ART data from China,EU,US,Japan,ANZ and LA in 2018.Results:Unlike other countries and regions,China had remarkably less number of ICSI cycles than IVF cycles, and China and Japan had obviously more number of frozen embryo transfer(FET)cycles than fresh cycles. The main reasons for ART treatment for infertile couples in China were fallopian tube factor and male factor, accounting for 47.90%and 31.70%,respectively.Most women in China who received ART treatments were under 35 years old(accounting for 64%among infertile women),while 51%of women in Japan who received ART treatments were over 40 years old.Compared to other countries or regions, the clinical pregnancy rate and live birth rate both in fresh and FET cycles in China and the US were higher. The multiple pregnancy rate in China was obviously higher than that of other countries or regions, and the proportion of SET was relatively low. Conclusions:The types of ART treatment cycles, age of infertile women, and causes of infertility in China in 2018 are different from those in other countries or regions.Although the ART successful treatment rate in China is high but the multiple pregnancy rate is also high, and further optimization of embryo transfer strategies is needed.
