A single center study on the current situation of induced abortion, reproductive health awareness and its risk factors among women of childbearing age
Objective:To explore the current situation of induced abortion and the reproductive health awareness among women of childbearing age,and to analyze the risk factors of reproductive health awareness. Methods:A total of 420 women who underwent induced abortion in Beijing Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital,Capital Medical University from January 2021 to December 2022 were recruited.A survey was conducted using the questionnaire on the status of induced abortion and reproductive health awareness. The scores of reproductive health awareness among patients with different characteristics of induced abortion were compared.Multiple linear regression analysis was used to analyze the risk factors of reproductive health awareness among induced abortion women. Results:The effective response rate of the questionnaire was 94.29%(396/420).Among 396 women with induced abortion,52.53%had first induced abortion and 47.47%had recurrent one.The reasons were no contraceptive use(48.23%)and failure for contraceptive use(51.77%).About 95.20%were within 10 weeks of pregnancy, and 4.80%were over 10 weeks. The main ways of knowledge acquirement related to abortion included the internet(49.24%),medical personnel(32.83%),and family/friends/colleagues(17.93%).The score of the reproductive health awareness was 11 to 36 points, with an average of(26.12±5.44)points.The three items with the lowest scores were complications related to induced abortion, ovulation time, and safe period. There was a statistically significant difference in reproductive health awareness score among patients with induced abortion at different ages, educational levels, sexual partners, marital status, the number of induced abortion, and monthly household income(P<0.05).Young age,low education levels of women and their sexual partner,no history of induced abortion, and low monthly household income were risk factors of reproductive health awareness among induced abortion women(P<0.05).Conclusions:Recurrent induced abortion and contraceptive failure are relatively high in women seeking for induced abortion, and their reproductive health awareness needs to be further improved.Age,education levels of women and their sexual partners, the number of induced abortion, and monthly household income are all influencing factors of reproductive health awareness among patients with induced abortion.
