The influence of abnormal semen quality on fertilization and pregnancy outcomes of IVF-ET in men with different body mass index
Objective:To analyze the influence of abnormal semen quality on fertilization and pregnancy outcomes of IVF-ET in men with different body mass index(BMI).Methods:A retrospective analysis was conducted on 263 patients who underwent fresh IVF-ET cycles at the Reproductive Center of Sixth Medical Center,General Hospital of the Chinese People's Liberation Army from January 2018 to December 2022.The patients were divided into three groups according to the male BMI as normal weight group(18.5 kg/m2≤BMI<24 kg/m2,n=7 7),overweight group(24 kg/m2 ≤ BMI<28 kg/m2,n=113)and obesity group(BMI≥ 28 kg/m2,n=73).Based on sperm quality, the three groups were further divided into normal sperm parameter group and abnormal sperm parameter group, and the basic characteristics of each group were compared. The effects of abnormal semen quality on the fertilization outcome and clinical outcomes of IVF-ET in different BMI groups were analyzed. Results:The normal fertilization rate,high-quality embryo rate, blastocyst formation rate, clinical pregnancy rate, and live birth rate did not show any significant differences among the three groups with different BMI(P>0.05).In pairwise comparisons, the high-quality embryo rate in the normal BMI group was significantly higher than that in the obesity group(70.96%vs.63.46%,P<0.05).Subgroup analysis of different BMI groups showed no statistically significant differences in the fertilization rate,high-quality embryo rate, blastocyst formation rate, clinical pregnancy rate and live birth rate between the abnormal semen parameter group and the normal semen parameter group(P>0.05).Conclusions:Male obesity has a certain impact on the rate of high-quality embryo in IVF.This study shows that the abnormal semen quality of men with different BMI has no effect on the fertilization and pregnancy outcomes of IVF-ET.
