Innovating Labor Education in Higher Education:A Perspective from"Living Education"Theory
The"Living Education"theory, pioneered by modern Chinese educator Chen Heqin, emerged as a response to traditional education's rigid approach characterized by six failures where teaching and learning become mechanical, passive, and ultimately meaningless. This innovative educational framework encompasses theories of educational purpose, curriculum design, and pedagogical methods.By creatively addressing fundamental questions about the goals, methods, and beneficiaries of education, this theory offers valuable insights for contemporary higher education reform, particularly in labor education.Implementation of"Living Labor Education"requires returning to fundamental educational principles, connecting with real-world contexts, and emphasizing experiential learning. The study proposes three key strategies:establishing a student development-centered system, creating synergy between dedicated labor education courses and labor elements integrated across the curriculum, and implementing an integrated teaching-learning-doing approach. These innovations aim to revitalize labor education while addressing current challenges such as over-pragmatism,disconnection between theory and practice, and ineffective instruction.
