Abstract
The dragon pattern has been present as a totem on pottery and in burials since prehistoric times. In the highly hierarchical Qing Dynasty, where the emperor was regarded as the incarnation of the dragon, the use of dragon patterns followed strict norms and exclusivity.Dragon patterns in the Qing Dynasty exhibit regularity, intricate details, powerful postures, and a combination of formalization and diversity.Clothing and ceramic decoration represent the most representative categories for studying dragon patterns.Exploring the cultural significance of Qing Dynasty imperial court dragon patterns can be enhanced by examining their development, formal characteristics, and decorative combinations.
