Analysis on the Glaze and Body Structure and Coloration of Bluish White Porcelain from Wanpinglun and Zulonggong Kiln Sites in Dehua during the Song Dynasty
Bluish white porcelain is an important variety of ancient export porcelain in southern Fujian during the Song Dynasty,and its cultural value and connotation cannot be ignored.The production center of bluish white porcelain in the southern Fujian region was represented by the Dehua Kiln.There were numerous porcelain kilns in the region,with a large output and fine quality.The bluish white porcelain produced is widely sold overseas in East Asia,South Asia,East Africa and other places and is an important commodity in international trade at that time.In this study,a portable X-ray fluorescence spectrometer and a colorimeter were used to analyze the chemical composition and chromaticity characteristics of the body and glaze of bluish white porcelain from Wanpinglun and Zulonggong in Dehua.These data and color characteristics were also discussed with the data of bluish white porcelain from Hutian kiln in Jingdezhen.The results show that the bluish white porcelain produced in Wanpinglun and Zulonggong of Dehua both exhibit the characteristics of high silicon and low aluminum porcelain stone in southern China.However,there may be differences in raw material selection between the two.In particular,the content of elements such as CaO,MnO,and Sr in the bluish white porcelain of Zulonggong is significantly higher than that of Wanpinglun,which provides an important scientific basis for determining the specific production areas of bluish white porcelain in Dehua kiln.The glaze of bluish white porcelain from Wanpinglun and Zulonggong in Dehua is mainly calcium-alkali glaze and exhibits the characteristics of high MgO,high P2O5,and low MnO,which may be related to the introduction of a certain amount of plant ash such as straw ash and husk ash into the glaze.In addition,the wavelengths of the glazes of the two are 517nm and 506nm respectively,and the overall glaze colors can be classified into three categories:slightly blue-green,slightly green,and greenish-yellowish tones,with the slightly green tone being the main one.This provides an important reference basis for the quantitative description of the glaze color of bluish white porcelain.
