Mechanism Research on Inclined Cracks on Wheel Tread of HXD2 Locomotive and the Countermeasures for Profiling Repair
Locomotive wheels have bad service conditions and prominent failure problems. In view of the frequent occurrence of oblique cracks on the tread of HXD2 locomotive wheels, this paper analyzes and investigates the current status of wheel operation and maintenance, and uses metallographic inspection to explore the initiation and propagation mechanism of inclined cracks.Based on the distribution law and characteristics of inclined cracks,an economical repair plan is proposed based on the locomotive wheel fault prediction and health management system(hereinafter referred to as"locomotive PHM + wheel system"),and the experimental results are verified. The research results show that the inclined tread crack is the main reason that restricts the service life of the wheel. The crack belongs to the rolling contact fatigue damage. The opening direction points to the wheel rim.It is most likely to occur at the 1st and 4th axis positions. The depth of crack propagation also increased in general;the economical repair plan can reasonably recommend the thickness of the wheel flange, reduce the loss of wheel diameter repair, and save 2.3 mm per wheel in a single repair, which has achieved certain results.
