With the acceleration of urbanization,the transportation industry has become one of the main sources of greenhouse gas emissions.Urban rail transit,generally driven by electric power for the purpose of reducing carbon emissions from traditional fossil fuel combustion processes,plays an important role in mitigating carbon emissions in the transportation industry.In response to the problems of undefined prediction and rules for carbon emission during the rail transit operation,this paper takes an urban rail transit project as a case study to investigate the carbon emis-sion prediction method during the rail transit operation period,clarifies the calculation boundary and scope,and es-tablishes a carbon emission prediction and calculation model for the operation period.The calculation results show that the total carbon emissions of this urban rail transit project in the initial,near and long terms are 41 908.93 tCO2e/a,54 211.26 tCO2e/a and 68 614.26 tCO2e/a,respectively.The carbon emissions mainly come from engi-neering equipment and traction system,accounting for 47.07%,52.67%,and 58.76%respectively in the initial,near,and long terms.Emission reduction measures for rail line design,station setting,ventilation and air condition-ing,power lighting,comprehensive control,etc.are proposed,together with a brief introduction of application ca-ses of various energy-saving and carbon reduction measures.
