Numerical Simulation of Deep Water Foundation Scour for Cross Sea Railway Bridge
The second phase of the proposed Toumen Railway Branch Line(Toumen Port Station-Toumen Port East Station)is located in the eastern sea area of Zhejiang Province.The tidal phenomenon is significant in the sea area where the Toumen Port Bridge of the cross sea railway is located,with high wave heights and significant foundation scour.Firstly,7 typical bridge piers were selected and empirical formulas(Sun Zhilin and Han Haiqian formulas),JTG C30-2015 Hydrological Specifications for Survey and Design of Highway Engineering formulas,American HEC-18 formula,and numerical simulation methods were used to calculate the scour depth of piers.The range of the scour pit was calculated using the Das formula based on the once-in-a-century water level.Then,the change in water depth after balancing scour and sedimentation was calculated by using a semi empirical and semi theoretical formula of scour and sedimentation calculation.The feasibility of using numerical simulation methods for local scour analysis of piers was verified by comparing the depth of local scour calculated with theoretical formulas.The results show that,No matter how the size of the pier abutment along the bridge change,the scour depth calculated by Sun Zhilin's formula and HEC-18 formula is relatively large,while the calculation value by Han Haiqian's formula is the smallest.Therefore,it is advisable to use standardized formulas to calculate the scour depth in bridge design.Overall,the larger the size of the piers abutment along the bridge,the larger the area of the scour pit.After the completion of the bridge,the water depth decreased by 0.3~0.7 m,while the general scour depth is 3~5 cm.Therefore,when analyzing the local scour at the bridge site,the influence of general scour may not be considered.When the size of the pier abutment along the bridge is between 8~11 m,compared with the local scour depth calculated by Sun Zhilin's formula,the numerical simulation values are closer to the values calculated by the standard formula,and numerical simulation methods can be used for local scour analysis of piers.
