Key Construction Technologies of Lifting Whole Section of Super-large Double-wall Steel Box Cofferdam
The new G3 bridge over the Yangtze River in Tongling,Jiangxi Province,China,is a 988 m cable-stayed suspension hybrid bridge for both road and rail traffic. The main bridge Pillar 3#has a monolithic circular end-bell-shaped foundation made of concrete. The foundation is supported by a group of piles. The construction team used a double-floating crane system to transport and install the foundation segments vertically.By adjusting the position of the double-floating cranes from parallel to perpendicular, the team solved the problem of anchoring the cranes in the Yangtze River during high water levels, fast currents, narrow waterways and busy shipping traffic. This reduced the risk of accidents during the installation process.Additionally, the team used a meticulous vertical segmentation to ensure that the first segment of the foundation became self-floating and stable before the subsequent segments were added, creating a"steamer"effect where the super-large double-walled steel casing was assembled in the Yangtze River during the flood season using the least amount of time, material and in the safest manner.
