Research and Experiment on Vacuum Consolidator for Measuring Soil Compressibility Under Positive and Negative Pressure
The conventional one-dimensional consolidator is limited in its ability to apply positive pressure to the soil, and is unable to study the secondary consolidation characteristics of the soil under negative pressure.Furthermore, the joint application of positive and negative pressure is not currently feasible within the scope of existing research. In this paper, the conventional one-dimensional consolidator is modified to develop a vacuum consolidation instrument that can measure the compressibility of soil under positive and negative pressure. This is achieved by forming a hermetic environment with a sealing cover and a sealing base using a rubber membrane, which is then tightened with a rubber band to ensure the airtightness. The accuracy of the data obtained from the vacuum consolidation instrument is verified through calibration and a negative pressure confinement test. This enables the study of secondary consolidation characteristics of soft soil under the vacuum combined surcharge preloading, which is an effective equipment support for related research.
