Feasibility Study on Modified Asphalt Mixture with Coal Gangue Powder Filler
Coal gangue is a kind of waste produced in the process of coal mining, and the output is huge.Because it is not easy to burn and lack of effective use, resulting in a huge amount of accumulation, which contains heavy metals caused serious pollution to the environment. At present, there are existing literatures on the use of coal gangue as building materials to fill the roadbed and so on.In order to explore the feasibility of using coal gangue powder(CGP)as a filler to modify asphalt mixtures, this paper compares and analyzes coal gangue powder with limestone powder(LS),and explores the physical, chemical, pore, and surface properties of coal gangue powder. The results show that the diameter of the coal gangue powder particles is smaller, and the particle size of coal gangue powder is less than0.02 mm,accounting for30.23%,while the particle size of limestone powder is less than 0.02 mm,accounting for only 2.78%.Coal gangue powder has a larger specific surface area, increasing by 2.11 m2/g compared with limestone powder. The surface of coal gangue powder is rough and contains scaly structure, while the surface of limestone powder is relatively smooth. In addition, the content of SiO2 and Al2O3 active substances in coal gangue powder is about 8 times that of limestone powder. These indicators show that coal gangue powder has excellent physical and chemical properties and has the potential of filler modification. Thus, the filler of the modified asphalt mixture can be replaced by coal gangue powder, which can improve the road performance of the asphalt mixture and improve the utilization rate of coal gangue, and help to reduce the land occupation and protect the environment.
