On the Ecological Development Concept of Ecological Marxism and Its Contemporary Value
In view of the inherent contradiction between economic growth and ecological sustainability, ecological Marxism oppo-ses not only the post-modem scheme of giving up economic growth proposed by the"dark green"trend of thought, but also the technical modern anthropocentrism scheme advocated by the"light green"trend of thought.Based on the theoretical perspective of historical materialism, this paper proposes that realization of ecological development requires the establishment of scientific ec-ological values and the transformation of economic growth model and human existence model under the premise of changing the so-cial production modes. The ecological development concept of ecological Marxism is the result of deep reflections on the ecological environment problems faced by the contemporary western societies and on their development path.Despite this,a realistic dilem-ma still exists on how to actualize it.Explorations in this regard will not only deepen our understanding toward the internal rela-tionship between production modes and ecological environment problems, but also prompt our reflections on the ecological values of modem society, the economic growth modes, and the ecological defects of people's way of living.Such explorations are of great theoretical and practical values to the enhanced understanding and researching on China's green development concept and highlight the positive influence it may exert on solving the ecological environment problems around the globe.
