With the continuous advancement of the"Belt and Road"initiative,China's international influence and attractiveness have been continuously enhanced,making the study and the compiling of the guidelines for the use of foreign languages in public service field for an increasing body of foreigners in China an urgent practical need.This paper first briefly introduces the current development of the guidelines for the use of foreign languages in public service areas,analyzes the use of technical terms in the various guidelines,lists the institutions in charge of the making and setting of these guidelines,and describes the areas and contents covered by each maker of the guidelines.It then points out the problems of these guidelines,such as inadequate language services for"Belt and Road"countries,single foreign language varieties,the homogenization and the inconsistency of translation and writing rules,lack of generative rules,and weak binding force as well as poor implementation of those guidelines.Finally,suggestions are made for the future development of such guidelines in China.
