On the Area Dimension in the Reconstruction of the Fundamental Theories of Politics
The reconstruction of the fundamental theories of politics should attach much importance to the area dimension, which would promote the further development of historical politics and provide creative re-sources for historical and political theories.Besides,it could guarantee a solid academic foundation for regional and country studies. The reflection of area dimension starts with the comparative rethinking of empires and cen-ter-inclusive unification as two basic civilizational and political communities. As far as China is concerned, the empire pattern usually interprets traditional Chinese countries as despotic states dominated by exclusive power center, which could be seen in the prevalent explanation influenced by the imperial center-periphery structure, the middle ground and the Zomia highland doctrines.Partly learning while distinct from the empire pattern, national corrido and integrated pluralism,supra-societal systems and cross-system society inspire us to understand the logic of the center-inclusive unification state based on Chinese historical practice. As the earliest dissenter against the empire pattern,Qian Mu puts forward the theory of historical area that could be the starting point of the rethinking over area dimension. The theory of historical area elaborates the logic and dynamics of traditional Chinese state-building and rule of principles of propriety.Following the logic, the re-searchers of historical politics regard the category of area as spatial social and political form historically shaped and loaded with communal feature and strategic value, which would be inspiring for the theoretical reconstruc-tion of area dimension in the horizon of the system and keys of ideal governance.
