New Materialism and Its Critique in the Age of Digital Intelligence
In the age of digital intelligence,"things"and"human"have become more closely integrated with emerging technologies.Against this background,a new theoretical trend called"New Materialism"has e-merged in the Western humanities and social sciences from the end of the 20th century to the beginning of the 21st century.New Materialism absorbed ideological resources from Post-Constructivism,Post-Structur-alism and Post-Humanism,and can be divided into three schools of thought according to different theoreti-cal foundations and emphases:(1)Vital New Materialism;(2)Agential Realism;(3)Speculative Realism and Object-Oriented Ontology.Based on the sociological perspective of Marxism,New Materialism in the age of digital intelligence challenges the traditional dualistic framework and focuses on"materiality","agency",and the relationship between human and non-human entities, which is a new trend of theoretical perspec-tive.However,its emphasis on the relationship between"things and human"runs counter to Marxism's revelation of the relationship between"people",and a dialectical attitude should be adopted towards the new materialist trend. It is undeniable that the emphasis of New Materialism on the category of"matter"and the relationship of"things and human"has stimulated the imagination of sociological research.Marxist sociology for the age of digital intelligence must endeavor to give innovation to Marxism and social theory, and provide strong theoretical support for social development.
