On the Value of"Three-Dimensional Objectives"in the Era of"Key Competencies"
With the publication and implementation of the 2022 version of the compulsory education curriculum standards, the basic education curriculum standards have completed the transition from the"three-dimensional objectives"era to the"key competencies"era. When the"three-dimensional objectives"seem to be disappearing from the curriculum,it is necessary to reflect:are the"three-dimensional objectives"obsolete?Examining the value of"three-dimen-sional objectives"at the three levels of curriculum philosophy, curriculum objectives and instruc-tional objectives,it is found that"three-dimensional objectives"are still relevant in the era of"key competencies".First of all,the eighth round of curriculum reform advocates person-orien-ted and comprehensive development,and"three-dimensional objectives"are an embodiment of this concept. The 2022 curriculum inherits relevant concepts and proposes"key competencies",but the emphasis on the comprehensiveness of education in the form of"three-dimensional objec-tives"still holds value.Secondly, the key competencies as the curriculum objectives, depict the ideal form of the person to be cultivated, but do not take into consideration of the attainability of the objectives, and the decomposition of the psychological components by way of"three-dimen-sional objectives"sheds light on the attainability.Thirdly, key competencies cannot guide teach-ing,and"three-dimensional objectives"provide a point of departure for teaching. In short, key competencies and"three-dimensional objectives"are not either-or,but they should each have their own place in the curriculum to jointly promote the implementation of the new curriculum.
