Based on the corpora of Alexander's A Chapter of Chinese History:The Minister's Stratagem(1861)and self-revision Teaou-Shin:A Drama from the Chi-nese(1869),this paper uses the TAALES tool to extract 39 lexical indicators to ex-plore the lexical readability differences between the two translated texts under the guidance of Translator Behavior Criticism.Overall,the self-revised text exhibits higher lexical readability compared to the 1861's version.In terms of psycholinguistic norms,lexis in the self-revised text is more concrete,making it easier to form clear images in readers'mind;In terms of age of exposure,the self-revised text is easier for readers of different ages to understand;Indicators in contextual distinctiveness show words con-taining less information are used in the self-revised text,resulting lower lexical com-plexity.This paper suggests that the motivation of revision may be related to the changes of the translation genre,the audience,the translator's identity,the social re-sponse and the market orientation.This paper is helpful to understand the translator's behavior on modification and promote the dissemination of Chinese classic culture.
