Progress on the mechanism of traditional Chinese medicines for reinforcing kidney and activating blood circulation in the treatment of knee osteoarthritis and osteoporosis"co-morbidity"based on Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway
Knee osteoarthritis(KOA)is a chronic degenerative disease of the knee joint, mostly manifested by joint pain, swelling, and stiffness, which has a great impact on the quality of life of the patient.Osteoporosis(OP)is a systemic metabolic bone disease, with low bone mass, and bone microstructure damage as the main pathological characteristics, vulnerable to fractures.Chinese medicine has a variety of effective ingredients,multi-targeting,and multi-effective treatment of diseases, which has a great advantage in the treatment of common diseases. The classic Wnt/β-catenin signal pathway regulates the formation of knee joint cartilage cells and the death proliferation and development of bone cells by multiple pathways, which is closely related to the pathogenesis of KOA and OP.This paper reviewed the molecular mechanism of Wnt/β-catenin signaling pathway modulation by kidney tonifying and blood activating traditional Chinese medicines in the treatment of"co-morbidities"of KOA and OP,and provided a basis for more effective and rational use of kidney tonifying and blood activating traditional Chinese medicines in the treatment of"co-morbidities"of KOA and OP.This study will provide a basis for the more effective and rational use of kidney tonifying and blood activating herbs in the treatment of KOA and OP co-morbidities.
