Progress in the study of perceived risk of venous thromboembolism in hospitalised patients
Objective Venous thromboembolism(VTE)is one of the potential complications in hospitalised patients, including deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism, early prevention is the key to reduce the morbidity and mortality of VTE.Current guidelines for VTE prevention is mature, and the effectiveness of guideline-based primary prevention, mechanical prevention, pharmacological prevention have all been validated in clinical practice, but they are mainly aimed at clinical healthcare professionals, patients and caregivers do not pay enough attention to the risk of VTE,which leads to their low adherence to prevention.Risk perception is people's feelings, knowledge and understanding of risky things and risk characteristics, which can improve health-related behaviours and promote the generation of relevant preventive behaviours. In the process of VTE prevention, the patient factor is an important part, and the patient's risk perception of VTE,adherence and the prevention effect are closely related.Understanding patients'VTE risk perception is an important way to improve their subjective initiative and adherence to VTE prevention. This paper reviews the current situation of patients'VTE risk perception, assessment tools, influencing factors, and intervention strategies.Currently, patients'perception of VTE risk is insufficient, and there is a lack of complete and targeted VTE risk perception assessment tools.Domestic scholars have mainly studied patients'VTE perception based on the theory of health belief model and the theory of knowing, believing, and acting, and VTE risk perception is affected by the patients'personal factors(e.g.,age,cultural level, and social background),illness experience,VTE history, social support, and primary caregiver, etc. This report is focus on the influence of medical, patients',and patients'VTE prevention, and we review the current status of VTE risk perception. This paper discusses the response measures from the medical side, the patient side, and the online media in order to improve the level of patients'VTE risk perception and increase the adherence to prevention,so as to provide a reference for the intervention research to optimize the results of patients'VTE prevention behaviours and reduce the incidence of VTE.
