Research on improving the clinical teaching quality of operating room nurses through immersive experience combined with flipped classroom based on CDIO concept
Objective To explore the impact of applying immersive experience combined with flipped classroom teaching program based on CDIO concept teaching on learning effectiveness,teaching quality and teaching satisfaction of nursing students during operating room internships.Methods Newly recruited nursing students in the operating room in 2021 and 2022 were selected,and divided into a control group(32 newly recruited nursing students in 2021)and an observation group(34 newly recruited nursing students in 2022)based on the order of their entry into the department.The control group received conventional clinical teaching for operating room nurses(following the content of the syllabus,including both theory and practical operation),while the observation group implemented an immersive experience combined with a flipped classroom clinical teaching program based on the CDIO concept,in addition to the conventional teaching.A comparison was made between the two groups in terms of theoretical and practical assessment scores,self-directed learning ability,critical thinking ability,empathy ability,and satisfaction with the teaching program.Results The theoretical and practical assessment scores of nursing students in the observation group were higher than those in the control group,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The self-directed learning ability and critical thinking ability of nursing students in the observation group were higher than those in the control group,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).The each dimension scores of empathy ability scale of nursing students in the observation group were higher than those in the control group,the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Moreover,the overall satisfaction of teaching quality among nursing students in the observation group was higher than that in the control group,the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The immersive experience combined with the flipped classroom teaching program based on the CDIO concept can enhance the self-directed learning ability and critical thinking of operating room nursing students.It also improves their assessment scores and empathy,leading to higher satisfaction with the teaching program among students.Moreover,the empathy ability of the nursing students is enhanced through the innovative teaching plan.
