Effect evaluation of modified compression bandaging for preventing salivary fistulas after resection in patients with benign parotid tumors
Objective To analyze the preventive effect of modified compression bandaging on salivary fistula after resection in patients with benign parotid tumors and its impact on patient satisfaction. Methods A total of 70 patients with parotid tumors admitted to the hospital from January 2022 to April 2023 were selected as the study subjects. They were divided into an observation group and a control group, with 35 cases in each group, based on the principle of comparability of basic data between groups.Tumor resection surgery and postoperative skin flap drainage were performed in both groups. The control group implemented routine bandage compression after surgery, while the observation group implemented the modified compression bandaging with elastic bandages. The incidence of postoperative salivary fistula in both groups was statistically analyzed, and the volume of saliva secretion was recorded before surgery and at 3,7,and 15 days after surgery.Additionally, the negative pressure drainage volume and drainage time were observed in both groups. The differences in satisfaction levels regarding salivary fistula prevention and control measures, and the psychosocial adaptation to the disease between the two groups of patients were compared. Results There was no statistically significant difference in incidence of postoperative salivary fistula between the two groups(P>0.05).The saliva secretion volume of patients in the observation group at 7 and 15 days after surgery were 1.58±0.64 mL and 1.22±0.38 mL,respectively, which were lower than the 1.85±0.58 mL and 1.53±0.39 mL of the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).There was no statistically significant difference in drainage time and drainage volume between the two groups(P>0.05).The satisfaction of patients in the observation group was better than that in the control group, the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Additionally,the scores for the work ability, communication status, entertainment, and psychological condition of patients in the observation group were lower than those in the control group, the differences were statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The application of the modified compression bandaging in patients with benign parotid tumors after resection is feasible. The stable, effective, and comfortable compression bandaging method can reduce saliva secretion, control the probability of salivary fistula, and effectively enhance the psychosocial adaptation of patients during the bandaging period, thereby improving their satisfaction.
