Objective To analyze the relationship between automatic thought,self-compassion,and psychological distress in patients with polycystic ovary syndrome(PCOS),aiming to provide guidance for reducing psychological distress of PCOS patients. Methods A total of 236 PCOS patients admitted to the hospital from January 2020 to December 2021 were selected as the survey subjects.General Information Questionnaire,Automatic Thoughts Questionnaire(ATQ),Revised version of Self-compassion Scale(RSCS)and Psychache Scale(PAS)were used for the investigation. In total,236 questionnaires were distributed and all were returned. After excluding 6 questionnaires with missing items,230 valid questionnaires were obtained, with an effective response rate of 97.46%.Univariate analysis was used to analyze the differences in automatic thought,self-compassion,and psychological distress among PCOS patients with different characteristics.Pearson correlation was conducted to explore the relationships between automatic thought,self-compassion,and psychological distress in PCOS patients.Multiple linear regression analysis and structural equation modeling were employed to analyze the moderating effect of automatic thought on the relationship between self-compassion and psychological distress in PCOS patients.Simple slope and the Johnson-Neyman technique were used to analyze the boundary values of the moderating effect. Results The automatic thought score of PCOS patients was 86.13±16.50 points, the self-compassion score was 59.70±13.26 points, and the psychological distress score was 52.74±10.20 points.Univariate analysis showed that the differences in automatic thought,self-compassion,and psychological distress scores among PCOS patients with different ages, education levels, disease durations, family relationships, occupational status, and household incomes were statistically significant(P<0.05).Pearson correlation analysis showed that the automatic thought of PCOS patients was positively correlated with psychological distress and negatively correlated with self-compassion(P<0.001).Self-compassion was negatively correlated with psychological distress(P<0.001).Under the moderating effect of high and low automatic thoughts,self-compassion had a statistically significant negative prediction of psychological distress(β=-0.212 and-0.337,P<0.01),with a critical value of 85 for the moderating effect. Conclusion The automatic thought has a moderating effect between self-compassion and psychological distress in PCOS patients.Clinical medical staff should adopt positive psychological intervention and health education to improve the level of self-compassion and reduce the level of automatic thoughts in PCOS patients, thereby alleviating their depression and psychological distress.
