Objective To clarify the influencing factors affecting the core competencies of diabetes specialist nurses through correlation analysis and structural equation model,to provide a theoretical basis for the management and training of diabetes specialist nurses. Methods Diabetes specialist nurses trained by the Guangdong Nursing Association from 2016 to 2021 were selected as the research subjects. The subjects were surveyed by using a self-designed questionnaire on core competency-related factors(including diabetes care and education-related behaviors, diabetes care research-related behaviors, continuing education-related behaviors, and work environment-related support)and a diabetes specialist nurse core competency questionnaire.A total of 213 questionnaires were distributed, and 213 valid questionnaires were recovered, the effective recovery rate was 100%.Correlation analysis and structural equation model were used to analyze the influencing factors of core competence of diabetic nurses. Results The core competence of diabetes specialty nurses in Guangdong Province was generally at the upper middle level. The lowest score was 20.02±6.86 points for scientific research ability, and the highest score was 70.25±9.45 points for health education ability. There is a correlation between diabetes care and education-related behaviors, diabetes care research-related behaviors, continuing education-related behaviors, and work environment-related support and the core competencies of diabetes specialist nurses(r=0.156~0.764,P<0.05).The structural equation model shows that nursing and education-related behaviors have the greatest impact on core competencies(0.25),followed by research-related behaviors(0.23),continuing education-related behaviors(0.13),and work environment-related support has the least impact on core competencies(0.07).Research-related behaviors, continuing education-related behaviors, and work environment-related support could indirectly affect the core competencies of diabetes specialist nurses through the mediating role of nursing and education-related behaviors. Conclusion Nursing managers should pay attention to the nursing and education-related behaviors of diabetes specialist nurses, promote their research-related behaviors, encourage continuing education-related behaviors, and provide work environment-related support to improve the core competencies of diabetes specialist nurses.
