Summary of best evidence for dietary management in patients with autism spectrum disorder
Objective To summarize the best evidence on dietary management for patients with autism spectrum disorder(ASD)and to provide an evidence-based basis for targeted dietary management.Methods According to the"6S"pyramid model of evidence-based retrieval resources,relevant Chinese and English guidelines and expert consensus databases were systematically searched:Guidelines International Network(GIN),National Guideline Clearinghouse(NGC),Registered Nurses'Association of Ontario(RNAO)official website,National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence(NICE),Scottish Intercollegiate Guidelines Network(SIGN),Chinese Medical Journal Full-text Database,and Yimaitong.We Searched evidence-based resource databases:Cochrane Library,Up To Date,Australian Joanna Briggs Institute Evidence Based Health Care Center Database,China Biology Medicine(CBM),and searched original research databases:PubMed,EMbase,Web of Science,China National Knowledge Infrastructure and VIP for all evidence on dietary management of patients with ASD.The search period was from database establishment to December 2023.Two independent researchers evaluated the quality,extracted evidence,and summarized the included literature.Results A total of 15 documents were included in this study,including 10 guidelines,2 expert consensus articles,2 systematic reviews,and 1 Meta-analysis,summarizing 8 pieces of evidence in 5 aspects including dietary management process,dietary management team building,nutritional assessment and monitoring,nutritional intervention,and health management.Conclusion This study summarized the 8 best evidences on dietary management of ASD patients at home and abroad.The evidence showed that medical staff should conduct a comprehensive assessment of patients with autism spectrum disorder before implementing dietary management,and develop an individualized dietary management plan for patients with autism spectrum disorder through multidisciplinary collaboration based on the results of nutritional screening and combined with domestic medical and departmental environment,so as to implement targeted nutritional intervention for ASD patients.
