Effectiveness of individualised education combined with teach-back method in elderly patients with diabetes mellitus
Objective To explore the application effect of whole individualised education combined with teach-back method in the knowledge level of diabetes mellitus,self-management ability and the quality of discharge guidance of elderly diabetes mellitus patients,to provide reference basis for the health management of elderly diabetes mellitus patients.Methods 81 cases of elderly diabetic patients admitted in the Department of Endocrinology of the Affiliated Hospital of Youjiang Medical University For Nationalities in Baise from January to August 2022 were selected as the study subjects,40 patients admitted from January to April 2022 were set as the control group and 41 patients admitted from May to August 2022 were the observation group.In the control group,routine nursing education was adopted,nursing activities were given to the patients according to the nursing routine of endocrinology diabetes after admission to the hospital,and the responsible nurses carried out routine nursing care and health education,which included admission education,medication guidance,dietary care,exercise guidance,blood glucose monitoring,and guidance for discharge,etc.In the observation group,individualised education was adopted throughout the study.In the observation group,the whole individualised education combined with the teach-back method was used for education,the health education method was based on the different individual conditions and needs of the patients,and the teach-back method was used to strengthen the effect of education,and both groups intervened until the patients were discharged from the hospital.The knowledge level of diabetes,self-management ability score and discharge guidance quality score were compared between the two groups of elderly patients with diabetes mellitus.Results Before intervention,there was no statistically significant difference between the diabetes knowledge scores of the two groups(P>0.05),but after intervention,the observation group was higher than the control group,with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).Before intervention,there was no statistically significant difference between the scores of diabetes self-management ability of the two groups(P>0.05),but after intervention,the observation group was higher than the control group,with a statistically significant difference(P<0.05).After the intervention,the observation group was higher than the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).The quality score of discharge guidance of patients in the observation group was higher than that of the control group,and the difference was statistically significant(P<0.05).Conclusion The implementation of the whole process of individualised education for elderly diabetic patients combined with the teaching-back method can effectively improve the patients'knowledge of diabetes and self-management ability,improve the quality of discharge guidance,and help to strengthen the health management of elderly diabetic patients.
